RTMS
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a cutting-edge therapy that has been gaining popularity in recent years for the treatment of various psychiatric and neurological disorders like depression, OCD, Migraine, Stroke rehabilitation etc.
It works by using magnetic fields to stimulate or inhibit specific brain areas involved in various medical or psychiatric conditions thereby regulating brain function and improving symptoms of various disorders.
It has been developed over the last 30 years and has been universally proven to be a safe, non-invasive, painless, well-tolerated, out patient procedure for the indicated conditions.
Deep TMS- Double Cone Coil
Recently, an innovative rTMS coil, the so-called double cone coil (DCC), was introduced allowing the modulation of the deeper brain cortical structures like anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), ventromedial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC), leg motor cortex etc. It is concluded to be safe and therapeutically effective in various clinical research studies.
Accelerated RTMS
Accelerated repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (arTMS) is a newer treatment approach that involves administering multiple daily sessions of rTMS to reduce the total time period of stimulation required for therapeutic effect from symptoms. This is in contrast to classical daily single sessions of rTMS, which are typically spread over a period of 2-4 weeks or even longer.
arTMS is beneficial for patients who have difficulty adhering to traditional rTMS schedules due to logistical or personal reasons, while being equally safe and effective.
Accelerated Deep TMS- Double Cone Coil
This strategy adds up the benefits of accelerated rTMS therapy with deeper brain cortical stimulation using Double Cone Coil rTMS therapy in an accelerated protocol.
arTMS-DCC is beneficial for patients who have difficulty adhering to traditional rTMS-DCC schedules due to logistical or personal reasons, while being equally effective and safe.
Theta Burst Stimulation
Theta-burst stimulation (TBS) is a newer form of rTMS protocol that has shown promising results in reducing the duration of administration required for therapeutic effects. TBS has been shown to produce similar or greater effects on brain activity than standard rTMS.
One of the major advantages of TBS over conventional rTMS procedures is its reduced administration duration. Traditional rTMS procedures can last between 20 and 45 minutes, whereas TBS paradigms only require 1 to 3 minutes of stimulation. This reduction in time makes TBS a more convenient and efficient option for patients.
Research has shown that TBS may be effective in treating depression, anxiety, and chronic pain, among other conditions.
TBS is a promising new more effective and safe approach to rTMS that has the potential to reduce the duration of administration required for therapeutic effects.
Accelerated Theta Burst Stimulation
Theta-burst stimulation (TBS) is a newer form of rTMS protocol that has shown promising results in reducing the duration of administration required for therapeutic effects. TBS has been shown to produce similar or greater effects on brain activity than standard rTMS.
Accelerated TBS protocols have been tried for depression and anxiety with multiple sessions per day and have found equal treatment response to conventional rTMS protocol. It is beneficial for patients who have difficulty adhering to traditional rTMS schedules due to logistical or personal reasons. It also has the advantage of greater patient comfort due to its very short duration of session times.

(NIMHANS, Bangalore) & Dr. Shubhmohan Singh (PGI, Chandigarh). The program was attended by more than 100 delegates and were aptly supported by the many senior Psychiatrists and Consultants from Kolkata and entire West Bengal.

Specialized Psychological Services
In addition to state of the art RTMS services and standard psychological therapies like Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness based therapies, etc., Somnos RTMS Clinic and Brain Stimulation Center offers highly specialized psychological services for treatment of various mental disorders as well as for improving mental wellness for individuals without mental illness or those for whom there is no treatment with traditional pharmacological agents.
Cognitive Rehabilitation
In certain conditions like head injury, intellectual disability (borderline or mild), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), dementia (Mild-moderate cases), autism, substance dependence/ addiction, ADHD, chronic Schizophrenia etc., there is a significant cognitive deficit leading to impaired attention, memory, decision making, judgement etc.
Though the traditional pharmacological agents (medications) are helpful for managing the aggression, perceptual disturbances, craving/ withdrawal etc., they often have almost no action on the underlying cognitive deficits which are extremely important for long term behavior modification, treatment outcome and quality of life of the individual.
In recent times, there have been significant research on various cognitive rehabilitation therapy/ training, often delivered via digital medium, under the guidance of an experienced therapist. It has been found that this form of therapy has been significantly helpful in improving attention, concentration, decision making, memory, speed of processing and other cognitive functions in these conditions.
We offer personalized and individualistic (using digital platforms) cognitive rehabilitation therapy with experienced therapists via 'In-Clinic' and 'At-home' mixed model approach, trying to improve the cognitive resources of individuals helping them to cope more effectively with their daily challenges of everyday life.
Career Counselling
More often than not, teenagers are confused about which stream to take up in future to make a successful and satisfactory career choice. They, unfortunately, have to rely on advice from friends and relatives, which are usually filled with individual biases and doesn't factor in the index individual's interests, capabilities and choices.
We intend to guide the teenager in a structured, scientifically validated method to help him/her find his/her true calling and fulfill his/her goals for a satisfying and successful career outcome. We do an IQ assessment of the individual student before using rating tools (scientifically validated for Indian students through robust research) and after identifying the areas of interest and abilities of the student, give relevant and appropriate counselling.
Family Therapy
'High expressed emotions' are often seen more commonly in families of individuals with mental illnesses. It includes hostility, criticism and emotional overinvolvement. Presence f high expressed emotions have been found to significantly impair recovery of the patients with mental illness.
Also, faulty family dynamics and enmeshment or skewed relationships between individuals in families often go a long way in deciding the outcome of the patient with mental illness.
No amount of pharmacological interventions or individual counselling can help in these circumstances unless the entire family is brought together as an unit for some form of therapeutic intervention in the psychological framework.
